    The Photography Meet Up is a bi-weekly gathering designed for enthusiasts of all levels who share a passion for photography. Taking place on the third Tuesday of the month from 7 to 9 PM, this event welcomes anyone interested in exploring various aspects of photography, from capturing images to technical discussions.

    Participants can share their latest photographs and have the opportunity to make prints of their work. The meet up fosters a casual environment where individuals can engage in conversations about photography, exchange ideas, and enhance their skills through shared experiences.

    Additionally, professional photographers are often present to offer their insights and expertise, providing valuable knowledge to attendees. Overall, the Photography Meet Up serves as a supportive community for individuals to learn from one another and grow in their photography journey.

    Course Description

    Want to turn your photos into stunning, gallery-worthy prints? This hands-on workshop teaches you how to use GBM’s 44" HP DesignJet Z6DR large format printer to create beautiful, high-quality posters, technical drawings, or wall art. No photography background required — just basic computer skills and a great image on a USB stick.

    Whether you're printing for your home, business, or a creative project, this workshop will guide you through every step of the process — from paper loading to trimming and framing. You’ll leave with a professionally printed and framed 16"x20" image you created yourself.

    Key Learnings

    • Basic operation of the HP Z6DR printer via the control panel

    • How to load both roll-fed and sheet-fed paper

    • Use of HP Click software to send, size, and align your prints

    • Understanding print borders, sizing, and layout

    • Safe trimming and finishing of prints

    • Introduction to basic colour systems and ICC Profiles

    • Overview of paper types and their effect on print quality

    ✅ Prerequisites

    Basic computer skills required.
    No photography or graphic design experience necessary.

    What to Wear

    • Comfortable indoor attire

    • Closed-toe shoes recommended

    What to Bring

    • USB stick with at least one high-resolution image

    • Optional: additional photos for review

    • All materials provided, including frame and print paper

    ‍ About Your Instructor

    Edward Matthews is a retired professional photographer and former engineer with a passion for precision, creativity, and sharing knowledge. His technical background includes work with Texas Instruments, Dell, OnStar, and MetaSolv, followed by formal photography studies at Austin Community College.

    Ed has worked across multiple photography genres — from portraits and real estate to sports and landscapes — and now calls Lake Charles, Ontario home. At GBM, he combines his engineering mindset and photographic artistry to help members get the most out of the Marketing Lab’s powerful printing tools.

    Introduction to Live Sound & Event Audio

    Ever wondered what happens behind the mixing console at presentations, conferences, concerts, festivals, and live events?

    This hands-on introduction to live sound will teach you the practical skills needed to set up, operate, and troubleshoot a professional audio system. Instead of spending hours watching online tutorials, you'll work directly with real equipment in a live venue environment, learning the fundamentals of sound reinforcement through guided, hands-on experience.

    Whether you're organizing community events, managing a band, producing conferences, hosting performances, or simply interested in audio technology, this course will give you the confidence to understand and operate a live sound system.

    Hands-On Learning Topics Include:

    Setting up a live sound system
    • Types of microphones and polar patterns
    • Signal flow and audio routing
    • Tuning monitors to reduce and prevent feedback
    • Audio processors and how they work
    • Compressors, equalizers, and dynamics control
    • Audio effects and their practical applications
    • Basic troubleshooting techniques
    • Best practices for live event audio

    Participants will work directly with professional sound equipment in the Sydenham Campus Auditorium, gaining real-world experience in a supportive learning environment.

    Isaac Kingshott is an accomplished live and studio sound engineer, producer, and audio technician from Owen Sound. A graduate of Fanshawe College's Audio Production and Engineering program, Isaac has worked with artists and industry professionals including The Stampeders, The Gordon Lightfoot Band, and former Sony Music Senior Vice President Mike Roth. His teaching style is hands-on, practical, and focused on helping participants build confidence through real-world experience.
