Description:
MIG welding, also known as Gas Metal Arc Welding (GMAW), is a popular and versatile type of welding used in manufacturing, construction, and metalworking. In this three-hour workshop, you will get an introduction to the basics of MIG welding and gain hands-on experience with welding techniques.
You will start by learning the fundamentals of welding safety, including the use of personal protective equipment and proper handling of welding equipment.
You will practice welding techniques such as tack welding, butt welding, and fillet welding on metal. You will learn how to control the welding arc, create a strong and clean weld, and troubleshoot common welding problems.
By the end of the workshop, you will have a solid understanding of MIG welding and the ability to weld on your own.
Prerequisites: No prior welding experience is necessary. This workshop is suitable for beginners who want to learn basic MIG welding techniques in a short amount of time.
Equipment: All necessary welding equipment and materials will be provided, including a MIG welder, welding helmet, gloves, and welding wire.
*Participants are encouraged to wear long-sleeved cotton clothing and closed-toe shoes for safety.
ABOUT YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Hi I am Jeff Mills, a Welder/Fabricator originally from the Windsor/Essex area. I started working in the fabrication field in 2007 after leaving the automotive industry and graduating with a diploma in the Welder/Fitter program at the Windsor Welding Institute. I’ve worked on everything from custom wrought iron projects for residential use as well as small and large projects for mining, automation, automotive, aerospace, energy industries including prototypes weighing up to 80,000 lbs. Currently I teach Welding and Fabrication for the Red Seal Industrial Millwright program at Georgian College in Owen Sound as well as other welding related courses. I’m also an Academic Technologist for the college. I’ve held many CWB tickets in SMAW, GMAW, MCAW, FCAW while working in industry. During my time at the Welding Institute, I completed TSSA certifications in SMAW and GTAW in the 6G position and currently hold a Level 1 CWB Inspector certification. Courses and processes I’ve taught are SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, MCAW, GTAW, OFC, OFW, Soldering and Brazing, PAC, Layout and Fabrication, Blueprint Reading for Trades, and Trade Safety. I look forward to working and building skills with you in a friendly positive environment.
