Learn Together. Design Better. Make More.

Want to get more comfortable designing projects for the CNC? Join fellow Grey Bruce Makers members for a collaborative Vectric CNC Skill Share focused on learning VCarve  together.

This member-led learning group will work through the Vectric Master Training Course from Learn Your CNC Academy, a structured online program designed to take CNC users from the fundamentals of Vectric software through project design, toolpaths and more advanced CNC workflows. The course follows a step-by-step approach covering everything from setting up your first project and working with vectors to creating toolpaths and preparing projects for machining.

Rather than learning alone at home, we’ll work through the material together in the GBM classroom—watching lessons, trying the techniques, asking questions and helping each other figure things out.

What We’ll Explore

  • Navigating VCarve and Aspire
  • Setting up CNC projects
  • Creating and editing vectors
  • Importing artwork and files
  • Working with text, layers and layouts
  • Understanding CNC tooling and the tool database
  • Creating profile, pocket, drilling and engraving toolpaths
  • V-Carving and other 2.5D toolpaths
  • Preparing files for machining
  • Troubleshooting designs and toolpaths
  • Applying what we learn to real CNC projects

The training progresses from Vectric fundamentals into 2D design, toolpaths, 3D concepts and additional CNC techniques.

How the Skill Share Works

This is not a traditional instructor-led course.

A GBM member who has purchased access to the Learn Your CNC Academy training program is volunteering to host the sessions and learn alongside the group. We’ll progress through the training together, pause for discussion, experiment with the software and share our own knowledge and experience along the way.

Think of it as a CNC study group—with a makerspace attached.

Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop with a compatible version of Vectric VCarve or Aspire installed so they can follow along and experiment during the sessions.

Who Should Join?

This Skill Share is ideal for GBM members who:

  • Are new to Vectric software
  • Have some CNC experience but want a stronger understanding of the design process
  • Want to become more confident creating their own CNC projects
  • Learn better alongside other makers than watching tutorials alone
  • Want to expand what they can do with the GBM CNC equipment

No Vectric expert required. Curiosity is enough.

The GBM Skill Share Idea

Skill Shares are about members learning from members.

Someone brings a skill, resource, project or idea to the table—and we figure it out together. There may be questions nobody in the room can answer immediately. That’s part of the process.

Learn together. Experiment together. Make something awesome.

Grey Bruce Makers is a not-for-profit organization supported by membership fees, course fees, sponsorships and donations. We are a proud regional centre for creativity and community.
