Metal Shop 101

Instructor: Iain Campbell
Duration: 1 Hour

Course Overview
This one-hour orientation introduces members to the equipment, tools, and safety practices of the Grey Bruce Makers Metal Shop. Participants will receive a guided walkthrough of the shop and learn what each major machine is used for, how the workspace is organized, and the basic safety considerations required when working with metal fabrication equipment.

The orientation provides a high-level introduction to the machines available in the shop, helping members understand the capabilities of the space and which future courses will allow them to gain hands-on certification.

Equipment covered includes MIG and TIG welders, welding gas systems, CNC plasma cutter, metal cutting saws, grinders, slip rollers and brake, knee mill, metal lathe, drill press, CNC lathe, CNC 4-Axis mill, Tech CNC router, and the large belt grinder.

This course is the first step for members interested in metalworking, machining, welding, and CNC fabrication at Grey Bruce Makers.
